GENERAL NEWS:
Students and parents please join us for the Empowering Families workshop Thursday, December, 5th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Library. We will be focusing on mental health awareness. We look forward to seeing you!

Theater has it’s final movie night for the semester this Friday at 5:30pm. They will be showing the Claymation Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer as well as the Nightmare Before Christmas. Tickets are only $3! Come and have a great time and feel free to bring younger siblings or friends!

EGHS Theater is proud to present the 2nd annual Arts Gala Dinner and Show next Friday, December 13th. Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7, seating is first come first serve. Tickets are now on sale at the student store for $10 or dinner tickets for $30. There is a limited amount so get them soon! Please come out to support all of your EGHS art programs!

STUDENT STORE NEWS:

SPORTS NEWS:
Congratulations! The Thundering Herd Varsity Football team won the Division 2 Section Championship on Friday, November 29. The Herd defeated Whitney High School 35-0 to win their 6th Section Championship overall, and the Herd’s first since 2001.

They are now headed to Concord to play against Clayton Valley. GO HERD!

Today Men’s Soccer is away at Del Campo. Women’s Soccer is away at River City and Women’s Basketball is away at Folsom.

CAREER CENTER NEWS:
Students: Your 2nd semester classes are now available to view in your synergy account.  There should not be a need to change classes but if you have a concern please fill out a form found in counseling or make an appointment to see your counselor.

If you were interested in taking the CRC class that is being offered on campus next semester – the deadline has been extended until this Friday. Please see Ms. Hogge in the career center for an application and/or more information

Interested in the Military? The Army ROTC rep will be in the Career Center on December 9th, going over scholarship opportunities. Sign up in the Career Center.

CLUB NEWS:
Has your club taken their group picture for the 2020 yearbook? If the answer is NO, join your members at the Senior Mural at the beginning of lunch this Thursday, 12/5 for your final chance for a club photo. See Ms. Escobar in P-5 with questions.

This Wednesday is the Flying Hands Sign Language Club meeting.  Anyone interested in learning American Sign Language, also known as ASL, is welcome to stop by. Meeting time is 11: 50 at lunch in Mrs. Fernandez's room C7. As usual, snacks are available for anyone who comes early.  Reminders will be sent out on Classroom and Remind. See you there! Elk Grove Mock Trial is having a Fundraiser this Thursday at Panda Express on Waterman.  Please support Mock Trial by purchasing Panda Express on December 5th.

The CyberPatriot teams will be competing this Saturday in the State Round.  Go Herd!

All students are invited to compete in the California Math League Contest Tuesday, December 10th.  Let Mr. McNally, in room C-8, know to expect you if this will be your first one of the year. Contest starts at 3:30pm in room C-8 on the 10th.

BSU Black Student Union meets this and every Tuesday at lunch in room P-11. All are welcome.

EGHS Environmental Club meets this and every Thursday at lunch in room P-11. All are welcome.

MSA Muslim Student Association meets this and every Friday at lunch in room P-11. All are welcome.

Join Debate club to enhance your public speaking skills and explore diverse opinions regarding different topics every week! Meetings are in P44 on Mondays, during lunch! See Ms. K in P44 for more details!

Chess Club will be meeting Wednesday’s at lunch in P-10.

SENIOR NEWS:
The 2019-20 Elk Grove Reginal Scholarship Foundation applications are open. Seniors, you will now submit your application online at elkgroversf.org. The deadline is January 29th. Please see Mrs. Knight or Ms. Hogge, in the Career Center, for more information.

Seniors, the CRC rep will be on campus December 11th and 17th. You must sign up in the Career Center.

This is the last week for the KCRA Kids Can Food Drive. Please bring in your non-perishable food items to your 6th period class. The winning class will get a pizza party after Thanksgiving Break.

Our Varsity Thundering Herd football team defeated the Vacaville Bulldogs Friday night and will move on to the semi-final round of playoffs versus Cosumnes Oaks. The game will be at Cosumnes Oaks High School tomorrow, November 22nd, and kickoff is at 7pm. Come support our Thundering Herd!

CAREER CENTER NEWS:
Students, Cosumnes River College will be offering an Intro to Public Speaking Class here on the EGHS campus. See Ms. Hogge, today, for more information on this Advance Education Class.

Are you interested in a career in health care and business administration? Kaiser Permanente is looking for students for their eight-week paid internship. See Ms. Hogge for more info.

The 20th annual Black College Expo will be held on November 23rd on the Sac State Campus. This event is open to ALL students. Make your dreams of attending college a reality!

Interested in the Military? The Army ROTC rep will be in the Career Center on December 9th, going over scholarship opportunities. Sign up in the Career Center.

CLUB NEWS:
Tomorrow, Friday the 15th the environmental Club will be holding a recycle drive in honor of National Recycle Day. Donate your bottles and cans on the stage during lunch or drop bags off in P-11. There will be a raffle for all who donate. For more information, please see Ms. Lee.

The Gay-Straight Alliance Club meeting will be next Tuesday, November 19th at lunch in room P-40. Come and hear of our upcoming plans. We hope to see you there! See Ms. Ceaglio with any questions.

The Kids Can! food drive starts today and ends next Friday, November 22nd. Please bring your non-perishable food items to your 6th period class. The 6th period class with the most food items by November 22nd will get a pizza party after Thanksgiving Break. Please donate canned or non-perishable food items and help feed hungry families in our area.

SPORTS NEWS:
Our Varsity football team defeated Oakmont Friday and will move to the second round of playoffs versus Vacaville. The game will be at Wood High School, not Vacaville High School as their field is being redone. Kickoff is at 7pm. Come support the Thundering Herd!

The University of the Pacific (UOP) will be on campus this Thursday during 2nd period. Sign up for this presentation in the career center.

Need help getting a job? Walmart representatives will be in the Career Center hosting a mini career workshop, this Thursday November 14th. They will be helping students with applications and interviews. They will also be offering seasonal jobs on the spot. Sign up for this workshop in the Career Center

Hey Folks! Tonight at 6:00 p.m., at the Wackford Ballroom, is our TEEN FORUM! If you want to see improvements in Elk Grove, now is the time to speak up. The youth commission wants to hear what you have to say.

Starting Tuesday, November 12th, we will be kicking off our two-week long Kids Can food drive. Students can bring their non-perishable food items to their 6th period classroom. The 6th period class with the most donated items will win a pizza party, complements of ASB.

CAFETERIA NEWS:
Fall season is here! Pumpkin spice muffins available for breakfast every day!

SPORTS NEWS:
Tomorrow, the Thundering Herd football team will host Oakmont in the first round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs. Kickoff will be at 7:00 pm in Thunder Stadium. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $8 for Seniors and Military, $5 for students, and Free for children ages 5 and younger. As this is a CIF playoff, no passes or will-call guest lists will be accepted at the gate. We hope to see you there. GO HERD!
