GENERAL NEWS:
STUDENTS, the PSAT will be offered Wednesday, October 16th , which is also a REVERSE minimum day. There is no cost for all 10th graders to take the PSAT. If you are a Junior or Freshman interested in taking the PSAT, the cost is $18. You can sign up and pay in the Student Store, during lunch, or on the webstore. Deadline to register is Oct 11th. If you have any questions or needing financial assistance, please see Mr. Emperador.

Students that exhibit Honor, Effort, Respect and Determination can receive a Herd Pride Ticket by members of our campus staff or administration. Tickets turned in to the student store, the library, or the counseling office receive a sweet treat and a chance to win a gift certificate or Herd Pride backpack. Prizes will be delivered during 8th period every Thursday. The winners for the weeks of 9/13 and 9/20 are: Hezekiah, Bryant Cervantes, Mason Sphar, and Jeris Ransom. Special Shout out to the following teachers who passed out the cards: Webber, Garcia, Wilson, and Carlson. Way to go Herd!

Calling all students!  We want to hear your voice.  Come to the senior steps next Monday through Friday 9/23-9/27 during lunch and complete our HERD Pride survey.  All students who participate will receive a Herd Pride ticket for the weekly drawing, treat/snack, and be entered to win one of 10 FREE HOMECOMING DANCE TICKETS!!!!!!!!!  Staff will be present to pass out the cards and assist students with logging on to chrome books.  If you have a smartphone, you scan the QR code instead.  Winners of the homecoming dance tickets will be announced during HERD Time the following Tuesday October 1st. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the first movie, “The Emperor’s New Groove”, starts at 5:30 p.m. Snacks will be sold in the lobby ahead of time. There will be Disney trivia at intermission from 7:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. with the second sing along movie, “Aladdin”, starting right after. SPORTS NEWS:
Today Women’s Volleyball and Women’s Tennis are away at Franklin.

Tomorrow, Football is away at Davis. This Saturday Cross Country will be at the Elkhorn Golf Course in Stockton for the Pacific Tiger’s Invitational.

CAREER CENTER NEWS:
Next week is a busy week for college visits! We’ll have UC Irvine, University of Hawaii at Manoa, The College of Idaho, two colleges from Oregon, and more! If you are interested in learning more about these colleges and universities head on over to the Career Center!

CLUB NEWS:
It's official!  Flying Hands Sign Language Club will meet every Wednesday at Lunch in room C-14. Wednesday, September 25th, we will elect our Club Cabinet, so those members who are interested in being in a leadership roll, think about applying for a cabinet position. There is no Sign Language knowledge needed for these positions! There are five positions available: President through Publicity Chairperson.  See you there! Mrs. Morrow

Good morning Herd car enthusiasts! Sunday, September 22 is our Automotive Tech Car Club Annual Car Show! That’s right! The show is back! Come on out and take a look at custom, muscle, stock, modified, race cars, limited edition cars, pretty much anything car wise you could imagine! It’s gonna be a great time! We are partnering this year with the Camaro Generations club and will be expecting over 200 cars! Not your average high school car show! Come see the shop and our projects! Be a part of the fun, enter you own ride as well! Entrants are limited to ANY YEAR AMERICAN car! New or old, all American cars are welcome! Prizes, trophies etc! All in great abundance and fun! If you love singing, playing an instrument, or simply listening to music, Glee Club is the place for you. We meet every Thursday in B-3 during lunch. Every couple of weeks we choose a new genre based on votes so don’t miss your opportunity to be creative and join us! For more info see Mr. Hughes.

Good morning Students! Don’t forget, tomorrow, September 18th is a minimum day. There will be no late start! We will be on Bell Schedule #4.

Theater will be hosting their next movie night this Friday, Sept 20th. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the first movie, “The Emperor’s New Groove”, starts at 5:30 p.m. Snacks will be sold in the lobby ahead of time. Tomorrow, Hawaii Pacific University will be here during 8th period. We will also have Boise State, Soka University, and UC Santa Barbra here this week. If you are interested in learning more about these Universities head on over to the Career Center!EGUSD is holding their annual Attendance Campaign Poster Contest. The District’s “No Excuses-Go to School” campaign is returning with a new theme. Students are asked to illustrate what inspires and motivates them to arrive at school on time every day. If you are interested in participating in this contest please see Ms. Hogge for details.

GENERAL NEWS:
Academic Awards will be held tonight from 6:00pm-7:30pm in the Cartwright. Invitations have been mailed to award recipients. You can also see award recipients by grade level and student ID on the Library window facing the quad.

Don’t forget…tomorrow is SPORTS DAY! Wear a hat, shirt, or jersey of your favorite sports team!

Students, please check in with your teachers and get a pass if you need to go to the Health Office. This will minimize the possibility of getting marked absent in your classes.

Planners are in!! Students who have already purchased a student planner can pick it up during lunch in the Student Store. See Ms. Cazarez with any questions.

Today is the last day to pick up your school pictures in the student store!! And…If you missed out on taking your school picture, Lifetouch will be on campus Wednesday morning, September 25th for picture make ups.

SPORTS NEWS:
It’s that time of year again!! Who’s ready for some Powder Puff Football!!! There will be a meeting today after school at 3:45pm in the Cafeteria. If you’re interested in playing Powder Puff please attend this meeting to pick up your information packet.

Today Women’s Volleyball is away at Cosumnes Oaks and Tomorrow Football is away at Shasta in Redding.

This weekend Cross Country will be in Folsom competing in the Josh Ruff Invitational and Women’s JV Volleyball will be competing in the Carmichael Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

There will be a Service Academy Information Day for students interested in Military Academies this Saturday, September 14th from 10:00 am-11:30am at Mills Middle School in Rancho Cordova. Here you will learn all about the 5 different Service Academies.

In addition, on Saturday, October 5th, the United States Naval Academy will hold their admissions forum from 11:30am-2:00pm at the Cal Office of Emergency Services in Mather.

Who’s ready to show some Herd Pride! Tomorrow is our RED, WHITE, and BLUE spirit day and Friday is SPORTS day. So don’t forget to wear your Red, White and Blue and show off your favorite sports team this week!

Do you owe any books to the library?  Are they still sitting at home but you keep forgetting to bring them? Set yourself a reminder and get ALL OVERDUE BOOKS returned this week.  Bills for outstanding books will be sent home next week.  Also, you are on the No-Activities List if you haven’t returned your books! Please see Ms. Reiswig in the Library with any questions.

SPORTS NEWS:
There will be a Girls Basketball Meeting today at lunch in Ms. Campbell's room P-39. Fall conditioning will be starting next week, all are welcome to come out! See Ms. Campbell with questions.

Today Women’s Volleyball is home against Monterey Trail HS. They will also be home on Monday, September, 9th against Bradshaw Christian.

EGHS, please remember that your last year’s lunch applications will expire in a couple of weeks so get your new application in ASAP, it is blue and came in your Advisory packets. You can also apply for the breakfast and lunch program online and it is much faster than the paper ones. If you are not getting lunch in the speed line please wait for you friends outside the line. For those of you that don’t know we are serving a 2nd breakfast (nutritional break) during your morning 10 minute passing period.We have a new item: Black Bean Veggie Burger with fries in the snack bar. Come check it out. And don’t forget we have fresh made Caesar Salads every Wednesday. Any questions see Ms. Raney in the Cafeteria.

GENERAL NEWS:
The student store will be closed tomorrow, August 30th.

Herd Couture- our EGHS clothing exchange- will be open Wednesdays during lunch. All clothing is free! We are always accepting donations – if you have great clothing that no longer fits – bring donations to Herd Couture or to P-43! Happy free shopping Elk Grove students! Did you participate in Senior Steps, Link Crew, the Welcome Back Dance, or any other school activities so far? Send your photos to the Yearbook staff by going to www.hjEshare.com and entering code: EGHS for the chance to see your pictures in the 2020 yearbook! See Ms. Escobar for more info.

Picture Makeups! If you missed out on taking your school picture, Lifetouch will be on campus Wednesday morning, September 25th.

The first movie night of the year will be held next Friday, September 6th in the Little Theater and will be a summer Disney double feature. The first movie, Lilo and Stitch, will start at 6pm. Doors open at 5:30pm and snacks will be sold in the lobby for a low price. The second movie will be a Sing-a-long to the Little Mermaid and will start at 7:45pm with a 15 minute intermission between movies where a Disney trivia will be held. All are welcome to attend. Tickets are $5 per person or $8 for two people. Bring a friend! See Ms. Germano for more info.

Fall musical auditions start today after school in the Theater at 3:30pm and will continue tomorrow at the same time. See Ms. Germano in P-41 today for more info.

CAFETERIA NEWS:
EGHS, please remember that your last year’s lunch applications will expire in a couple of weeks so get your new application in ASAP, it is blue and came in your Advisory packets. You can also apply for the breakfast and lunch program online and it is much faster than the paper ones. If you are not getting lunch in the speed line please wait for you friends outside the line. For those of you that don’t know we are serving a 2nd breakfast (nutritional break) during your morning 10 minute passing period.

We have a new item: Black Bean Veggie Burger with fries in the snack bar. Come check it out. And don’t forget we have fresh made Caesar Salads every Wednesday. Any questions see Ms. Raney in the Cafeteria.

LIBRARY NEWS:
Do you owe any books to the library?  Are they still sitting at home but you keep forgetting to bring them? Set yourself a reminder and get ALL OVERDUE BOOKS returned this week.  Bills for outstanding books will be sent home next week.  Also, you are on the No-Activities List if you haven’t returned your books! Please see Ms. Reiswig in the Library with any questions.

SPORTS NEWS:
Girls Basketball Meeting Thursday, September 5th at lunch in Ms. Campbell's room P39. Fall conditioning will be starting next week, all are welcome to come out! See Ms. Campbell with questions.

Today Women’s Volleyball is home against River Valley and Women’s Tennis is away against Christian Brothers.

The Green Improvement Initiative is taking flight!!  Let’s make our campus cleaner and more plastic free! In order to do this, we need your input. Looking for an internship?? The HYPU and Miss Hmong Central Valley Douagee Cheng have something special for you all.
