GENERAL NEWS:
Please help us raise money for the Elk Grove High School Chess Club!  Eat at Panda Express at Market Place 99 TODAY, January 16th.  Be sure to bring the fundraising flier so we can earn 20% of the sales.  If you need a copy, come see Mrs. Ruthven in P-10.

 The 33rd Annual Rythmical Madness Mainstage performance is coming up soon! Friday, January 31st and Saturday, February 1st at Sheldon High School’s performing arts center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Show starts at 7:00 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are sold in the Student Store and after school in the dance room for $8. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 the day of the show. RM hopes to see you there!

 Please help the theater fundraise by coming to Panda Express, on Elk Grove Blvd., all day January 31st! Stop by and grab some diner before heading to see RM’s stage show! Thanks for supporting your Arts groups EGHS! See Ms. Germano in P41 for a flyer and for more information.

Tomorrow Men’s Basketball is home against Jesuit and Women’s Basketball is away at St. Francis. Men’s Soccer is away at Franklin and Women’s Soccer is home against Franklin.

 CLUB NEWS:
Students participating in the American Mathematics Competition, please watch your email for updates on the upcoming competition that will be held on February 5th in the cafeteria right after school. See Mr. McNally with any questions.

 There will be a meeting in P41 Today at lunch about Dear Evan Hanson. If you are in the theater or choir classes and turned in a permission slip to go please attend the meeting at the beginning of lunch.

If you would like to attend the Ashland Shakespeare Festival field trip at the end of this year please make sure to get your paperwork from Ms. Germano in P41 and submit your deposit to the student store today! There are only a limited amount of spots left!

CAREER CENTER:
INTEL is hiring up to 60 high school student interns this summer and the application is now open. In order to support students through the process, Intel is hosting a hiring workshop. See Ms. Hogge for more information.

SENIOR NEWS:
Seniors, you only have a few more weeks left to apply for the Elk Grove Regional Scholarship Foundations. The application process is now done online at elkgroversf.org. The deadline is January 29th. If you need help see Mrs. Knight or Ms. Hogge.

Cosumnes River College will be here Wednesday, January 22nd for an application workshop. Stop by the Career Center to sign up.

Jostens will be on campus Friday, January 24th during lunch to take any senior graduation orders. This is Jostens’s last in-school order day, so please order your cap and gown on or before January 24th to take advantage of the early order pricing.

Attention Students! If you have outstanding detentions from 1st semester you should have received a letter in your 3rd period class. Please start serving your detentions now. You are on the “no activities list” until you get these cleared. And get to class on time so that you don’t earn any more detentions!

Men’s Volleyball conditioning is today after school in the weight room and Track and Field conditioning is today after school on the Track. For more info, see Coach Heff.

Today Women’s Basketball is home against Cosumnes Oaks and tomorrow Men’s Basketball is away at Cosumnes Oaks.

GENERAL NEWS:
Attention HERD!!!  Don’t forget about our anti-vaping design contest!  If you would like to submit a design, bring it to Mrs. Lawson in P-63 by this Friday 12/20.  The winner will be selected and announced when we are back from break.  You don’t have to be good at drawing, just creative in your message.  See Lawson for details or questions.

Auditions for Romeo and Juliet are today, Tuesday December 17th at 3:30 in the little theater. No experience necessary and nothing needs to have been prepared in advance. If you enjoy sword fighting or romance this is the show you should audition for! See Ms. Germano in P41 for more information.

STUDENT STORE NEWS:
The Student Store is having a sale. T-shirts are now $10.00 and long sleeves are $15.00. From now until Winter break!

LIBRARY NEWS:
Stop by the library before you leave for winter break.  Return your textbooks from one-semester classes, return any overdue books, and get plenty of good reading for the break!  If you have questions about your books, please ask the librarians.

SPORTS NEWS:
Today Women’s Soccer is away at Davis. Men’s Basketball is away at Edison and Women’s Basketball is home against Woodcreek.

Tomorrow Men’s Soccer is away at Cosumnes Oaks and Women’s Soccer is home against CO.

CLUB NEWS:
Face in a Book Club is hosting a Christmas Book Drive. Bring new or gently used books to the Library or ask your English teacher if they are participating. Today is the last day we will be accepting books. The books will be donated to the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop. Thank you and Merry Christmas! For more info see Mrs. Reiswig.

Online registration is open for the annual American Mathematics Competition until December 18th.  The competition will be on February 5th in 2020.  Get your flyer from your Math Teacher this week to see how to register. Any questions see Mr. McNally.

Can you help those in need this winter? The Women’s Activist Club is collecting clothing donations to give to St. John’s Women’s Center, a shelter for women and children. Today is the last day to donate your gently used clothes to P-43.

EGHS Theater is proud to present the 2nd annual Arts Gala Dinner and Show Friday, December 13th. Doors open at 6:30 and the show starts at 7, seating is first come first serve. Tickets are now on sale at the student store for $10 or dinner tickets for $30. There is a limited amount so get them soon! Please come out to support all of your EGHS art programs!

Cookies and Cram begins today through Thursday. 3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m. in the Career Center. See Mr. Pale for more information

Congratulations to Soumaya Llhamous for winning our school’s Poetry Out Loud contest! She will represent EGHS at the county competition in February. Congratulations also to Brendan Jordan who, as first runner up, will serve as our school’s alternate

Congratulations!  The Thundering Herd Varsity Football team won the Division 2 Section Championship. The Herd defeated Whitney High School 35-0 to win their 6th Section Championship overall, and the Herd’s first since 2001.

They are now headed to Concord to play against Clayton Valley. GO HERD!

Today Men’s Soccer is home against Laguna and Women’s Soccer is away at Liberty Ranch.

Today we kick off the three-day Cartwright Classic tournament. Come out and support the Herd at 7:00 p.m. in the Cartwright Gym.

Students: Your 2nd semester classes are now available to view in your synergy account.  There should not be a need to change classes but if you have a concern please fill out a form found in counseling or make an appointment to see your counselor.

If you were interested in taking the CRC class that is being offered on campus next semester – the deadline is tomorrow. Please see Ms. Hogge in the career center for an application and/or more information

Interested in the Military? The Army ROTC rep will be in the Career Center on December 9th, going over scholarship opportunities. Sign up in the Career Center.

Elk Grove Mock Trial is having a Fundraiser today at Panda Express on Waterman.  Please support Mock Trial by purchasing Panda Express today.
