GENERAL NEWS:
The Kids Can! food drive is happening NOW! Please bring your non-perishable food items to your 6th period class. The winning class will get a pizza party after Thanksgiving Break. Please donate canned or non-perishable food items and help feed hungry families in our area.

SPORTS NEWS:
Second round of football playoffs versus Vacaville will be at Wood High School tomorrow, November 15th. Kickoff is at 7pm. Come support the Thundering Herd!

CAREER CENTER NEWS:
The 20th annual Black College Expo will be held on November 23rd on the Sac State Campus. This event is open to all students. Make your dreams of attending college a reality! See Ms. Hogge in the Career Center for more information.

CLUB NEWS:
Tomorrow, Friday the 15th the environmental Club will be holding a recycle drive in honor of National Recycle Day. Donate your bottles and cans on the stage during lunch or drop bags off in P-11. There will be a raffle for all who donate. For more information, please see Ms. Lee.

The Gay-Straight Alliance Club meeting will be next Tuesday, November 19th at lunch in room P-40. Come and hear of our upcoming plans. We hope to see you there! See Ms. Ceaglio with any questions.

Chess Club will be meeting Wednesday’s at lunch in P-10.

SENIOR NEWS:
Seniors, remember to turn in your yearbook quote to your English teacher by tomorrow, November 15th. See Ms. Escobar with questions.

If you plan on attending Cosumnes River College, a rep will be on campus this Monday, November 18th, to help with the application process and to answer any questions. Please take advantage of this opportunity. See Ms. Hogge in the Career Center to sign-up.

If you are applying to a CSU or UC and want to have your application reviewed go to the career center tomorrow, during lunch. Don’t submit until your application has been reviewed. Counselors will also be available after school until 4pm through the month of November.

The University of the Pacific (UOP) will be on campus this Thursday during 2nd period. Sign up for this presentation in the career center.

Need help getting a job? Walmart representatives will be in the Career Center hosting a mini career workshop, this Thursday November 14th. They will be helping students with applications and interviews. They will also be offering seasonal jobs on the spot. Sign up for this workshop in the Career Center

Please cheer on our CyberPatriot Competitors while they gear up for Round 2 on Saturday, November 16th.  We have one team that scored 300 out of 300 points for finding and fixing all the vulnerabilities in three different computer operating systems.  They are ranked in the top 100 out of over 2,400 teams nationwide.

Hey Folks! Tonight at 6:00 p.m., at the Wackford Ballroom, is our TEEN FORUM! If you want to see improvements in Elk Grove, now is the time to speak up. The youth commission wants to hear what you have to say.

Starting Tuesday, November 12th, we will be kicking off our two-week long Kids Can food drive. Students can bring their non-perishable food items to their 6th period classroom. The 6th period class with the most donated items will win a pizza party, complements of ASB.

SPORTS NEWS:
Tomorrow, the Thundering Herd football team will host Oakmont in the first round of the CIF Division 2 playoffs. Kickoff will be at 7:00 pm in Thunder Stadium. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $8 for Seniors and Military, $5 for students, and Free for children ages 5 and younger. As this is a CIF playoff, no passes or will-call guest lists will be accepted at the gate. We hope to see you there. GO HERD!

Theater’s next movie night is 80’s themed on Friday, November 1st! It’s a Back to the Future double feature! We will be offering a steep discount on tickets this month if you bring a friend. See both movies for just $3! Discounted snacks, pizza, and drinks will be sold in the lobby and there will be 80’s themed trivia during intermission. GENERAL NEWS:
Students! Absolutely No Food deliveries during school hours. This includes Door Dash and all other food delivery companies. If they show-up they will be turned away. Thank you!

Theater has a movie night this Friday, October 18th in the Little Theater. We will be playing Goosebumps 1 and 2 as a double feature. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with movies running at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 or $4 if you come in costume. All are welcome! See Ms. Germano for more information.

Powder Puff Shirts are in! Please stop by the Student Store today or tomorrow, during lunch, to pick it up.

Students that exhibit Honor, Effort, Respect and Determination can receive a Herd Pride Ticket by campus staff members. Tickets turned in to the student store, the library, or the counseling office receive a sweet treat and a chance to win a gift certificate or Herd Pride gear. Prizes will be delivered during 8th period every Thursday.

HOMECOMING NEWS:
Tickets are on sale this week in the Student Store. $20 with ASB and $25 without. Don’t wait until the last minute…head on over today.

The District will be hosting their 27th annual College and Career Fair tomorrow, October 16th, at Florin High School from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

GENERAL NEWS:
Students that exhibit Honor, Effort, Respect and Determination can receive a Herd Pride Ticket by campus staff members. Tickets turned in to the student store, the library, or the counseling office receive a sweet treat and a chance to win a gift certificate or Herd Pride gear. Prizes will be delivered during 8th period every Thursday. The winners for the week of 9/30-10/4 are: Preston Johnson, Jazmin Guerrero, Jason Jones, Miranda Roccucci. The winners for the week of 10/-10/11 are: Myles Wilson, Melissa Fernandez, Micah Kirkpatrick, Chanel Yabut. Staff Shout Outs go to Mr. Wilson, Mr. Shaw, Mrs. Silveira, Coach Sabbagh, Mrs. Bos, Mr.  Benson, Mrs. Erman, Mrs. Etchison.

The PSAT will be offered Wednesday, October 16th, which is also a REVERSE minimum day. Deadline to register is tomorrow, Oct 11th. If you have any questions or needing financial assistance, please see Mr. Emperador.

HOMECOMING NEWS:
Homecoming fluffs will be 3:30pm-8pm Monday through Thursday until October 24th. Please help your class construct your float for homecoming. We also want you to encourage parents to help chaperone, build floats, and provide snacks for the students. Please see Mr. Pale in C2 if you have questions. Come show your Herd Pride!

Come to the Cartwright this Friday after school for our Homecoming Rally. We will have our Homecoming Court Reveal, a lip sync competition, special performances by RM, cheer, and even some surprise guests. Do not miss out on this rally to start off Homecoming!

SPORTS NEWS:
Today Women’s Volleyball is away at St. Francis and Women’s Tennis is away at Davis.

This Saturday, Football will be away at Jesuit.

CAREER CENTER NEWS:
For those interested in joining the military, Elk Grove High will be holding their Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test on Wednesday, October 23rd. To sign up for the ASVAB, please see Ms. Hogge in the Career Center.

Sacramento State will be hosting their 7th annual Feria de Educacion this Saturday, October 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the Sac State Campus. This event is designed to empower Spanish-speaking parents and students with information and resources to help them succeed in California's education system.

The District will be hosting their 27th annual College and Career Fair on October 16th, at Florin High School from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

EGHS Cash for College will be Tuesday, October 29th from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. This is an opportunity for families to receive help with the FAFSA/CADAA. See your counselor for a list of what to bring.

STUDENTS, the no activities list for tardy detentions has been posted. You can find the list in the STUDENT STORE and LIBRARY windows. You must serve your issued lunch detentions to be removed from the list. Lunch detention is held in A-1 at the beginning of lunch. Any questions, see Ms. Sphar.

Students and parents please join us TONIGHT, October 3rd from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. in the Library for the Empowering Families workshop. We will be focusing on Post-secondary options, exploration, and planning. We look forward to seeing you! For more info see Ms. Hogge in the Career Center

The California Scholarship Federation applications are out! You can pick up your CSF application in the Student Store, Career Center, Library, or you can print it from our website. The deadline is THIS Friday, October 4th. NO applications will be accepted after Friday, October 4th.  Any questions, please see Ms. Weaver in P-15.

The PSAT will be offered Wednesday, October 16th, which is also a REVERSE minimum day. There is no cost for all 10th graders to take the PSAT. If you are a Junior or Freshman interested in taking the PSAT, the cost is $18. You can sign up and pay in the Student Store, during lunch, or on the webstore. Deadline to register is Oct 11th. EGHS is looking for families to host Australian students from January 9th -20th, 2020. If you are interested in hosting a student, please see Mr. Sebastian in the music room at lunch today.

Now in the snack bar, windows 1 and 2 are for chicken sandwich and cheeseburger lunches only. Windows 3 and 4 are for nachos and chili cheese nacho lunches only.

Happy first day of October! Homecoming Season is here!

Homecoming nominations have begun. All students are invited to nominate 3 Senior boys and 3 Senior girls for Homecoming Royal Court on the Senior Steps, today at lunch, to get names on the voting ballot. Starting tomorrow, October 2nd through Friday, October 4th, Seniors will be voting for Homecoming Royal Court from this ballot. NOTE: If you are running for Royalty, you can NOT campaign on the Senior steps or linger on the Senior steps during voting. Failure to comply will result in you being removed from the ballot. Period.

Fluffs will be in the quad this week, Tuesday-Thursday after school until 8:00 p.m.
