Pennies for Patients is a nationwide fundraiser, where the proceeds go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We will be collecting money every Friday during 4th period till the fundraiser ends February 21st. The 4th period class who raises the most money will have a pizza party! Good luck to everyone. Flying Hands ASL Club has opened up a classroom portal.  GOOD NEWS!  There won’t be any grading to worry about!  If you are a member please click “joined” and check out information and some fun YouTube videos. Next Wednesday February 21st is the due date for the Disneyland trips $100 deposit.  We contract busses based on sign ups, you cannot wait until graduation to decide. EGHS will be hosting the CIF Soccer Championships on Feb 27, March 1st and March 3rd. On those dates, all cars entering the back parking lot after school will be assessed a $5 parking fee and there will be no exceptions.

Not only did we perform in every category at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival, but every student in theatre 2/3 performed in a one-act play on the beautiful Harris Center Stage, and Darian Toca won an award for his performance in that one-act. The AMC 10/12 is tomorrow, Wednesday February 7th in the cafeteria immediately following the dismissal bell at 3:13pm.  Students who have filled out their answer document already may show their 6th period teacher their reminder pass and be released at 3:05pm to walk over with their student ID card to check in for the AMC 10/12.  No aids are permitted other than scratch paper, graph paper, rulers, protractors, and erasers.  NO CALCULATORS OR ELECTRONIC DEVICES OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED.  No AMC 10 or AMC 12 questions require the use of a calculator.  Only #2 pencils and blank scratch paper will be provided by the school.  Participants will be working for 75 minutes to complete 25 multiple choice questions.  Previous top students answered only 15-18 problems because correct answers are 6 points, questions left blank are 1.5 points, and incorrect answers are zero points.  Good luck everybody.

Over the weekend your Thundering Herd wrestling teams began their post season. After winning their 16th straight Delta League Championship, the men’s team competed at the section dual championships on Saturday. Your Thundering Herd grapplers dismantled Lodi, and a tough Del Oro team to advance to the Section Finals where they lost to Vacaville for the second year in a row. Congratulations to your Elk Grove Thundering Herd wrestlers for another runner up finish. Next it is on to the league championships where they begin their quest for a state championship qualification.

The Thundering Herd Ladies team began their individual post season at the North Section Regionals this weekend. The lady herd finished second as a team and had 3 champions in Miranda DiBennedetto, Audrey Elgaricdo, and Sienna Lejeunne. Also advancing to the next round of post season by placing at regionals were Karly Scott, Esmerelda Arroyo, and Mykhala Bagler. Next up is the Section Championships where Audrey, Esmeralda, Karly, and Mykhala look to earn a return trip to the state championships and Miranda and Sienna try to earn their first trip and first state medals.

Tuesdays and Thursdays we are now serving all meat pizza with pepperoni and cheese pizza. You can now purchase hot chocolate at breakfast for .75 or you can get it with your breakfast instead of milk.

The lines are long so if you are not buying a lunch please wait for your friends outside the line, it will make the lines go faster.

Students that exhibit Honor, Effort, Respect and Determination can receive a Herd Pride Ticket by a campus supervisors or administrator. Tickets turned in to the student store, the library, or the counseling office receive a sweet treat and a chance to win a gift certificate or Herd Pride backpack. Prizes will be delivered.

The week of Kindness is going on this week and Saturday, we have our Herd Pride Day. After Herd Pride day to clean up the campus, we will be having fun in the stadium with food drinks and games. You have to attend Herd Pride day to get in so come to school at 10 am on Saturday to participate in helping our campus look good.

All students who are participating in the AMC 10/12 will be getting an invitation to Mr. McNally’s Herd Time for Tuesday, January 30th.  During this Herd time, students will walk into the small café to fill in their Pre-ID Info on their Answer Document.  Once the student is done, they will return to their regular Herd Time location.  This must be completed prior to the exam date of Wednesday, February 7th.

Winter Homecoming tickets are on sale till February 1st in the Student Store at lunch only. Tickets are $25 per person with ASB, or $30 per person without ASB. Prices will increase Wednesday, January 31st so students are encouraged to purchase their tickets as soon as possible.

A reminder that guest passes are available in the attendance office and the student store and are due no later than Friday, January 26th at 3:45pm. Guest passes require 24-48 hours to be processed and must be approved BEFORE you purchase tickets for a guest that does not attend Elk Grove High School.

The Flying Hands Sign Language Club will meet at lunch today, Tues. in C14.  For those of you who would like some extra time to practice signing, the room will be open at the beginning of lunchtime.  At 12:00 we will have a short meeting to take care of Club business.  We will continue to sign after the meeting, if there’s any time left, for those who are interested. Cosumnes River College representatives will be onsite to assist graduating seniors complete the “Steps to Success” for 2018 Summer and Fall enrollment. SPORTS NEWS: 

The Elk Grove Men’s Volleyball preseason conditioning began January 17th at 3:30 p.m. in the Weight Room and running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday until tryouts start on February 5th.  Participation is not mandatory in order to tryout but highly encouraged to allow your work ethic and dedication to make a good impression.  The athletic clearance packet as well as physical must be completed to participate in an EG sport and can be found on the Synergy website.  If you are interested in trying out but are currently playing an EG Winter Sport (basketball, soccer, wrestling…), contact Coach Jill Smith to communicate that and work out details.  It’s going to be a great season!

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) applications are available NOW!!!  Members of the California Scholarship Federation are eligible for a variety of tuition scholarships available at universities across the state and in select colleges nationwide.  To qualify, you must have good grades the semester prior to your application.  To apply, fill out the form and pay your $5 dues either on the web store or at the student store.

Applications are due by Monday, January 22nd. Pick up an application from the students store, the front office, OR go to the school website… click on the “web store”

2.            Click on “required download” (under quantity) then print and follow the instructions!
